May 2016 ROGERSTONE & BASSALEG JOINT BURIAL BOARD
Open Letter from the Burial Board Clerk
ROGERSTONE AND BASSALEG
JOINT BURIAL BOARD
Community Cemetery
I am sure that you will all be aware of the recent fly tipping that has occurred at the Community Cemetery.
This despicable act of vandalism occurred on or about 11th or 12th May 2016 As Clerk for the Cemetery I was notified about the fly tipping by a concerned visitor to the Cemetery during the evening of 12th May.
Our Grounds Maintenance team along with myself and Cllr John Harris attended the Cemetery on the morning of the 13th May to ascertain the extent of the damage. We were disgusted to find that someone could desecrate a Cemetery in this way.
Newport City Council’s Enforcement team attended the Cemetery on the morning of Monday 16th May and have gathered evidence, at present their enquiries are ongoing. Once we have any further news we will let you know.
I am pleased to be able to report that with the help from our dedicated Grounds Maintenance team, Jason and Sam, the rubbish has now been cleared and properly disposed of.
On behalf of the members of the Joint Burial Board, we would like to thank all of the visitors who contacted us with their concerns and to express our sincere thanks to Jason and Sam for all the help they have given.
Could we ask all visitors to the Cemetery -
PLEASE KEEP THE GATES CLOSED AT ALL TIMES
It may help avoid this situation in the future

2014 Information
The Rogerstone and Bassaleg Joint Burial Board have now stopped accepting applications to pre-purchase Burial Plots at the :-
Community Cemetery,
Penylan Road, Bassaleg.
This decision was taken following a survey of the Cemetery along with much discussion and consultation with Newport City Council, legal and other professionals who gave their advice based on the fact that the Cemetery is reaching capacity.
