Bassaleg School

History to the Present Day

There has been a school at Bassaleg since 1880, the first being Bassaleg Controlled Voluntary School. By 1948 the school was known as Bassaleg Grammar School. Graig County Secondary Modern was then established on the same site as the Grammar School in 1958 to deliver a wide variety of subjects and provide greater vocational pathways for learners. Bassaleg Comprehensive School came into existence in the 1970s. The current name, Bassaleg School came into being in 1974.

Today our community has a thriving, campus based school, supporting learners from ages 11 to 19.

In 2023, the brand new facility, Adeilad Balch (Pride Building) opened, supporting 70% of education that takes place at Bassaleg School.
